März 2008 die Frist für den Widerruf des falschen Gutachtens fruchtlos verstrichen ist. Daher hat der betroffene Mobilfunkbetreiber wie angekündigt Klage auf Widerruf und Unterlassung eingebracht. "Es ist bedauerlich, einen so drastischen Schritt setzen zu müssen. Trotz der zweiwöchigen Frist und der erbrachten Belege für das Fehlen einer C-Netz-Anlage am Standort, hat der betroffene Beamte der Salzburger Landesregierung öffentlich seine Anschuldigungen wiederholt und dezidiert erklärt, diese Belege nicht zur Kenntnis nehmen zu wollen", so Maier. Mobilfunk-Fakten liegen auf dem Tisch: C-Netz war nie am Standort Die Aufzeichnungen der Republik Österreich (Post- und Telegraphenverwaltung) sind wasserdicht und eindeutig: Jedes Wählamt hatte ein technisches Grundbuch, indem alle Veränderungsanzeigen nummeriert, abgestempelt, unterschrieben und mit Datum versehen wurden. Die Aufzeichnungen der Standorthistorie und die eidesstattlichen Erklärungen der seinerzeit mit dem C-Netz befassten Beamten belegen eindeutig: Es gab niemals eine C-Netz-Anlage in Hausmannstätten.Dr. Oberfeld bleibt weiter die Belege schuldig Seitdem bekannt wurde, dass sich keine C-Netz-Station in Hausmannstätten befand, beruft sich Dr. Oberfeld öffentlich auf einen namentlich nicht genannten Informanten, der ihm konkrete Informationen unter anderem auch zu den Sendekanälen der angeblichen Station gegeben habe. Damit widerspricht er sich selbst: In seiner eigenen Untersuchung schreibt er auf Seite 38, dass die Antennentypen nicht eruiert und die Anzahl der am Standort Wählamt Hausmannstätten eingesetzten Funkkanäle nicht ermittelt werden konnten. Nun muss er sich entscheiden, ob die Aussage in seiner Untersuchung oder die neue Variante wahr ist. "In jedem Fall", so Maier, "reicht Hörensagen als Grundlage für eine wissenschaftliche Studie nicht aus." Nun auch noch die belegten Fakten beharrlich zu negieren, zwinge allerdings dazu eine objektive Beurteilung des falschen Gutachtens durch die Gerichte zu veranlassen. | Israel, Dr Sadetzki's study links protracted cellphone use with tumors DE Feb 17, 2008 The Jerusalem Post By Judy Siegel-Itzkovich Tumors of the parotid (salivary) glands are significantly more common in people who use cellular phones over a relatively long period, according to a retrospective study of nearly 500 Israelis who contracted such benign or malignant growths compared to more than twice as many healthy controls. This is reportedly the first study of the possible effects of cellphone use by Israelis, who are known to utilize them for many minutes per day and start at young ages. The study, led by Sheba Medical Center physician and Tel Aviv University epidemiologist Dr. Siegal Sadetzki, was announced late last week on the Web site Science Daily (sciencedaily.com) and published recently in the American Journal of Epidemiology. Sadetzki, who has appeared several times at Knesset committees about the possible risk of cellular phone usage, said that while the results needed to be confirmed by additional and longer studies, in the meantime precautions should be taken. These include limiting the use of cellphones by children and both kids and adults using earphones and other means to distance the cellphone from the head whenever possible. She conducted her study as part of the international Interphone Study, which aimed to discover if cellphone use and several kinds of brain and salivary gland tumors were linked. Those who used a cellphone very frequently on the side of the head where the tumor developed were found to have an increased risk of about 50 percent for developing a tumor of the main salivary gland, compared to those who did not use cellphones, the study revealed. The parotid gland is located under the external ear about four to 10 millimeters under the skin. Sadetzki, who owns and uses a cellphone, but sparingly, said that the fact that the study was done on an Israeli population is significant. Only a small minority of Israelis do not use cellphones, and those who do are likely to use them many more minutes than in other countries. In Israel, where the cost is relatively inexpensive, there is a greater tendency to keep in touch due to familial closeness and security problems and nearly every part of the country has cellular antenna coverage. Sadetzki explained: "Unlike people in other countries, Israelis were quick to adopt cellphone technology and have continued to be exceptionally heavy users. Therefore, the amount of exposure to radio-frequency radiation found in this study has been higher than in previous cellphone studies. "This unique population has given us an indication that cellphone use is associated with cancer," added Sadetzki, whose team surveyed (by regular telephones) salivary tumor patients in hospitals around the country. The study's subjects were asked to detail their cellphone use patterns according to how frequently they used one, the average length of calls, and the side of the head the phone was next to. Their responses were then compared to a randomized sample of about 1,300 healthy control subjects. The study also found an increased risk of cancer for heavy users who lived in rural areas, as cellphones in rural areas emit more radiation to communicate effectively because of longer distances between them and antennas. Sadetzki predicted that, over time, the greatest effects would be found in heavy users and children. The lead researcher said that while the world was not willing to give up their cellular phones, precautions must be taken to reduce exposure and lower the risk for health hazards. She recommended that people use hands-free devices at all times and when talking, hold the phone away from one's body. Less frequent calls, shorter in duration, should also have some protective effect. In addition, parents need to consider at what age their children start using them and insist that they use speakers or other hands-free devices. "Some technology that we use today carries a risk. The question is not if we use it, but how we use it," she concluded. |

Die Studie fand auch ein gestiegenes Risiko von Krebs bei Vielnutzern, die in ländlichen Gebieten wohnen, da in ländlichen Gegenden wegen der grösseren Distanzen zwischen ihnen und den Antennen mehr Strahlung emittiert wird, um effektiver kommunizieren zu können. Gerd Oberfeld kann ein Verschulden nicht erkennen. Die signifikante Häufung von Krebsfällen im Bereich des Wählamtes Hausmannstätten sind ein Faktum, welches nicht wegdiskutiert werden kann. Krebshäufung um das Wählamt Hausmannstätten erwiesen Bekannter Salzburger Umweltmediziner weist Vorwürfe zurück "Als Epidemiologe bin ich der Wissenschaft und der richtigen Interpretation von sich aus Untersuchungen ergebenden Daten verpflichtet." So reagiert der Salzburger Umweltmediziner Gerd Oberfeld auf die Vorwürfe der mobilkom austria AG, Häufung von Krebsfällen einem angeblich nicht existenten Masten für die C-Netz-Anlage in den Gemeinden Vasoldsberg und Hausmannstätten zuzuschreiben. Die von Gerd Oberfeld vorgelegten Fakten sind Tatsache: Rund um das Wählamt Hausmannstätten wurden im Rahmen der wissenschaftlichen Studie signifikante Häufungen, bis zum achtfachen für alle Krebsarten, festgestellt. Insbesondere waren es Brustkrebs und Hirntumoren. Im Zuge der Recherchen durch Gerd Oberfeld wurde von einem pensionierten Techniker der Post- und Telegraphenverwaltung Steiermark bestätigt, an diesem Standort ein CNetz- Sender am Standort Wählamt Hausmannstätten betrieben wurde. Auch die Sendeleistung und die Kanalanzahl konnten vom Informanten exakt benannt werden. Andere mögliche Faktoren, die eine derart signifikante Häufung von Krebsfällen hervorgerufen haben könnten, konnten von Gerd Oberfeld nicht ausgemacht werden. Im Zuge der Recherchen wurde Gerd Oberfeld seitens des BMVIT im übrigen mitgeteilt, dass nach Informationen des Bundesministeriums Daten der Netze, die nicht mehr in Betrieb sind, gelöscht werden und daher für das BMVIT auch nicht verfügbar sind. Weiters durchgeführte Recherchen bei den Anrainern und Anwohnern haben eindeutig ergeben, dass in den fraglichen Jahren tatsächlich eine entsprechende Sendeanlage von den Anwohnern wahrgenommen wurde. Bemerkenswert ist, dass sich die mobilkom austria AG mit dem Inhalt des Gutachtens offenbar nur insoweit auseinandersetzt, als dieses in Form von aus dem Zusammenhang herausgerissenen Teilen zitiert wird. Der Vorwurf, dass zum Beispiel eine 121-fache Risikoerhöhrung errechnet wurde, wird von Gerd Oberfeld auf das Entschiedenste zurückgewiesen. Die Ausführungen dazu im Gutachten wurden ausschließlich für Gehirntumorfälle in der höchsten Expositionsklasse getroffen. Ein "Herausreißen von Teilergebnissen" zur Nutzung von populistischen Aussagen stellt keine seriöse Auseinandersetzung mit dem Inhalt eines Gutachtens dar und kann daher nicht Grundlage einer sachlich geführten Diskussion sein, so Gerd Oberfeld. Der rechtsfreundliche Vertreter der mobilkom austria AG hat an Gerd Oberfeld nunmehr das Begehren auf Widerruf der durchgeführten Untersuchungen erhoben und gleichzeitig für den Fall der Nichtentsprechung schadenersatzrechtliche Forderungen angedroht. Gerd Oberfeld kann ein Verschulden nicht erkennen. Die signifikante Häufung von Krebsfällen im Bereich des Wählamtes Hausmannstätten sind ein Faktum, welches nicht wegdiskutiert werden kann. Sollte die Ursache hiefür eine andere als der Betrieb eines Mobilfunknetzes sein, so wird dies aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht selbstverständlich zu überprüfen sein. Gegenwärtig besteht jedoch für Gerd Oberfeld kein Grund, an der Richtigkeit der ihm vorliegenden Informationen zu zweifeln. Ein hinreichender Beweis, dass sich am Wählamt in Hausmannstätten kein C-Netz-Sender befunden habe, konnte von der mobilkom austria AG bislang jedenfalls nicht erbracht werden. Die Aussage der mobilkom austria AG, dass Österreich eine seriöse Mobilfunkpolitik benötigt, die befürchteten Risiken nachgeht, ohne deshalb auf Ängsten und Panikmache aufzubauen, begrüßt Gerd Oberfeld ganz besonders. Es ist hoch an der Zeit, die Ängste und Befürchtungen der betroffenen Bevölkerung, aber auch der schon seit Jahren hierauf hinweisenden wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse zu respektieren und gemeinsam nach Lösungen zu suchen. This does not mean that similar response will take place in human body exposed to this radiation. Therefore, in this pilot human volunteer study, using proteomics approach, we have examined whether a local exposure of human skin to RF-EMF will cause changes in protein expression in living people. Results Small area of forearm's skin in 10 female volunteers was exposed to RF-EMF (specific absorption rate SAR=1.3W/kg) and punch biopsies were collected from exposed and non exposed areas of skin. Proteins extracted from biopsies were separated using 2-DE and protein expression changes were analyzed using PDQuest software. Analysis has identified 8 proteins that were statistically significantly affected (Anova and Wilcoxon tests). Two of the proteins were present in all 10 volunteers. This suggests that protein expression in human skin might be affected by the exposure to RF-EMF. The number of affected proteins was similar to the number of affected proteins observed in our earlier in vitro studies. Conclusions This is the first study showing that molecular level changes might take place in human volunteers in response to exposure to RF-EMF. Our study confirms that proteomics screening approach can identify protein targets of RF-EMF in human volunteers. A Double-Blind Randomized Provocation StudyElectromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) is a potentially highly significant public health problem. Eltiti et al. (2007a) recently concluded that short-term exposure to a GSM (global system for mobile communication) base station-like signal did not affect well-being or physiological functions in individuals, and they dismissed a positive reaction to UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) as an artefact. Eltiti et al. (2007a) stated that "[EHS] individuals are unable to detect the presence of rf-emf [radio frequency electromagnetic fields] under double-blind conditions." We believe that this conclusion was erroneous, and that their data show that the EHS individuals reacted to both GSM and UMTS signals, and that this was not due to a nocebo effect. Figure 1 presents their data [mean and SE from Table 2 (Eltiti et al. 2007a)] and clearly shows that the sensitive group, unlike the control group, was reacting to the exposure, with significant results in both the open provocation (for GSM and UMTS, note the sham; p < 0.0025) and the double-blind tests (for UMTS). The sensitive group had higher initial levels of anxiety, tension, and arousal. Only a short time elapsed after arrival before testing started. Wever (1979) and others have reported that a period of a few days in a low-EMF environment are necessary before testing for EMF-related changes. We are puzzled by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves in Figure 2A (Eltiti et al. 2007a). The authors stated that the sensitive individuals were 55.2% correct, yet their curve was mostly below the 50% line. A more standard way of displaying the results would have been helpful. The sensitive group improved its on/off accuracy score after 50 min (55% to 60%), whereas the control group decreased (51% to 50%). The data for these double-blind tests (Fox E, personal communication) show that correct versus incorrect results were 60.6% (p < 0.005) for the sensitive group and 49.4% (not significant) for the control group. Eltiti et al. (2007a) found a large and statistically significant (p < 0.001) higher skin conductance in the sensitive group (see their Table 5). Their conclusions do not highlight this difference between the two groups, which may be a key indicator of likelihood of individuals to experience EHS symptoms. The EHS questionnaire devised by Eltiti et al. (2007b) was to be used for selecting the 132 most sensitive individuals. However, it was not used for this purpose because only 58 people with self-diagnosed EHS applied, and apparently no individuals were rejected because of a low score. Are provocation studies appropriate for testing for EHS, where there is often a significant time-lag from start of exposure to the start of symptoms? Also, perseveration of symptoms due to physiological arousal caused by traveling to the laboratory is a likely confounder. Any study should be designed to take into account both of these potential problems. Also, the use of Bonferroni corrections is contentious; uncorrected data should be shown along with corrected data. The study (Eltiti et al. 2007a) required 66 individuals per group for a power 0.90 to detect a difference between real and sham exposure responses. The authors tested only 44 sensitive individuals under double-blind conditions, which reduced the power to about 0.7. We question the appropriateness of publishing such definite conclusions based on such data, especially with a high-profile media briefing. Despite limitations, this study of Eltiti et al. (2007a) has produced positive results that support claims that EHS people can be affected by microwave transmissions from mobile phone base stations. Background: Individuals with idiopathic environmental illness with attribution to electromagnetic fields (IEI-EMF) believe they suffer negative health effects when exposed to electromagnetic fields from everyday objects such as mobile phone base stations. Objectives: This study used both open provocation and double-blind tests to determine if sensitive and control individuals experience more negative health effects when exposed to base station-like signals compared with sham. Methods: Fifty-six self-reported sensitive and 120 control participants were tested in an open provocation test. Of these, 12 sensitive and 6 controls withdrew after the first session. The remainder completed a series of double-blind tests. Subjective measures of well-being and symptoms as well as physiological measures of blood volume pulse, heart rate, and skin conductance were obtained. Results: During the open provocation, sensitive individuals reported lower levels of well-being in both the global system for mobile communication (GSM) and universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) compared with sham exposure, whereas controls reported more symptoms during the UMTS exposure. During double-blind tests the GSM signal did not have any effect on either group. Sensitive participants did report elevated levels of arousal during the UMTS condition, whereas the number or severity of symptoms experienced did not increase. Physiological measures did not differ across the three exposure conditions for either group. Conclusions: Short-term exposure to a typical GSM base station-like signal did not affect well-being or physiological functions in sensitive or control individuals. Sensitive individuals reported elevated levels of arousal when exposed to a UMTS signal. Further analysis, however, indicated that this difference was likely to be due to the effect of order of exposure rather than the exposure itself. Address correspondence to S. The study group consisted of 36 women and 35 men. Twenty-two women and sixteen men reported symptoms they specifically related to mobile phone use (SG). The rest of the participants reported no mobile phone-related symptoms (NG).
During actual exposure, as compared to sham exposure, sleep initiated one hour after exposure was affected. There was a prolonged latency to reach the first cycle of deep sleep (stage 3). The amount of stage 4 sleep was also decreased in exposed subjects. NG subjects reported more headaches during exposures vs. sham exposure. Neither group (SG and NG) was able to detect the true exposure status more frequently than by chance alone. The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals, components of sleep, believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear, are adversely affected. Moreover, participants that otherwise have no self-reported symptoms related to mobile phone use, appear to have more headaches during actual radiofrequency exposure as compared to sham exposure. However, subjects were not able to detect the true exposure status more often than would have been expected by statistical chance alone. Additional self-reported findings, biochemical, performance and electrophysiological data are currently being analyzed. Possible health implications from the findings will also be further explored |

The research, sponsored by the mobile phone companies themselves, shows that using the handsets before bed causes people to take longer to reach the deeper stages of sleep and to spend less time in them, interfering with the body's ability to repair damage suffered during the day. The findings are especially alarming for children and teenagers, most of whom ? surveys suggest ? use their phones late at night and who especially need sleep. Their failure to get enough can lead to mood and personality changes, ADHD-like symptoms, depression, lack of concentration and poor academic performance. The study ? carried out by scientists from the blue-chip Karolinska Institute and Uppsala University in Sweden and from Wayne State University in Michigan, USA ? is thought to be the most comprehensive of its kind. Published by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium and funded by the Mobile Manufacturers Forum, representing the main handset companies, it has caused serious concern among top sleep experts, one of whom said that there was now "more than sufficient evidence" to show that the radiation "affects deep sleep". The scientists studied 35 men and 36 women aged between 18 and 45. Some were exposed to radiation that exactly mimicked what is received when using mobile phones; others were placed in precisely the same conditions, but given only "sham" exposure, receiving no radiation at all. The people who had received the radiation took longer to enter the first of the deeper stages of sleep, and spent less time in the deepest one. The scientists concluded: "The study indicates that during laboratory exposure to 884 MHz wireless signals components of sleep believed to be important for recovery from daily wear and tear are adversely affected." The embarrassed Mobile Manufacturers Forum played down the results, insisting ? at apparent variance with this published conclusion ? that its "results were inconclusive" and that "the researchers did not claim that exposure caused sleep disturbance". But Professor Bengt Arnetz, who led the study, says: "We did find an effect from mobile phones from exposure scenarios that were realistic. This suggests that they have measurable effects on the brain." He believes that the radiation may activate the brain's stress system, "making people more alert and more focused, and decreasing their ability to wind down and fall asleep". About half of the people studied believed themselves to be "electrosensitive", reporting symptoms such as headaches and impaired cognitive function from mobile phone use. But they proved to be unable to tell if they had been exposed to the radiation in the test. This strengthens the conclusion of the study, as it disposes of any suggestion that knowledge of exposure influenced sleeping patterns. Even more significantly, it throws into doubt the relevance of studies the industry relies on to maintain that the radiation has no measurable effects. A series of them ? most notably a recent highly publicised study at Essex University ? have similarly found that people claiming to be electrosensitive could not distinguish when the radiation was turned on in laboratory conditions, suggesting that they were not affected. Critics have attacked the studies' methodology, but the new findings deal them a serious blow. For they show that the radiation did have an effect, even though people could not tell when they were exposed. It also complements other recent research. A massive study, following 1,656 Belgian teenagers for a year, found most of them used their phones after going to bed. It concluded that those who did this once a week were more than three times ? and those who used them more often more than five times ? as likely to be "very tired". Dr Chris Idzikowski, the director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, says: "There is now more than sufficient evidence, from a large number of reputable investigators who are finding that mobile phone exposure an hour before sleep adversely affects deep sleep." Dr William Kohler of the Florida Sleep Institute added: "Anything that disrupts the integrity of your sleep will potentially have adverse consequences in functioning during the day, such as grouchiness, difficulty concentrating, and in children hyperactivity and behaviour problems." University of Albany, New York- August 31 / Serious Public Health Concerns Raised Over Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) from Power Lines and Cell Phones An international working group of scientists, researchers and public health policy professionals (The BioInitiative Working Group) has released its report on electromagnetic fields (EMF) and health. It raises serious concern about the safety of existing public limits that regulate how much EMF is allowable from power lines, cell phones, and many other sources of EMF exposure in daily life. Electromagnetic radiation from such sources as electric power lines, interior wiring and grounding of buildings and appliances are linked to increased risks for childhood leukemia and may set the stage for adult cancers later in life. A report from the BioInitiative Working Group (bioinitiative.org) released on Friday, August 31st documents the scientific evidence that power line EMF exposure is responsible for hundreds of new cases of childhood leukemia every year in the United States and around the world. The report provides detailed scientific information on health impacts when people are exposed to electromagnetic radiation hundreds or even thousands of times below limits currently established by the Federal Communications Commission (US FCC) and International Commission for Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection in Europe (ICNIRP). The authors reviewed more than 2000 scientific studies and reviews, and concluded that the existing public safety limits are inadequate to protect public health. From a public health policy standpoint, new public safety limits, and limits on further deployment of risky technologies are warranted based on the total weigh of evidence. The report documents scientific evidence raising worries about childhood leukemia (from power lines and other electrical exposures), brain tumors and acoustic neuromas (from cell and cordless phones) and Alzheimer's disease. There is evidence that EMF is a risk factor for both childhood and adult cancers. If you look at the readers comments below the newspaper article you will find at least five people who have given good reasons why the testing failed. You will also find ignorant comments from stupid people who either do not know what they are talking about or they are deliberately trying to confuse the true situation. Salem Community, Environmental and Occupational Medicine Department, Faculty of Medicine, Menoufiya University, Shebin El-Kom, Egypt Received 20 October 2005; accepted 18 July 2006 Results: The prevalence of neuropsychiatric complaints as headache (23.5%), memory changes (28.2%), dizziness (18.8%), tremors (9.4%), depressive symptoms (21.7%), and sleep disturbance (23.5%) were significantly higher among exposed inhabitants than controls: (10%), (5%), (5%), (0%), (8.8%) and (10%), respectively (P < 0.05). The NBTB indicated that the exposed inhabitants exhibited a significantly lower performance than controls in one of the tests of attention and short-term auditory memory [Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT)]. Also, the inhabitants opposite the station exhibited a lower performance in the problem solving test (block design) than those under the station. All inhabitants exhibited a better performance in the two tests of visuomotor speed (Digit symbol and Trailmaking B) and one test of attention (Trailmaking A) than controls. The last available measures of RFR emitted from the first mobile phone base station antennas in Menoufiya governorate were less than the allowable standard level. Conclusions and recommendations: Inhabitants living nearby mobile phone base stations are at risk for developing neuropsychiatric problems and some changes in the performance of neurobehavioral functions either by facilitation or inhibition. The SAR of some GSM telephones reach 2 W/kg, if we assume this happens when the phone transmitts 2 W then we would have 0,002 W/kg when the phone transmitts at its lowest level. Thus the sham exposure in the report is about the same as when someone is talking in a GSM telephone near a basestation (thus the lowest transmitted power). This happens for indoor GSM systems as well as macro cells (if you are some hundred meters from the basestation). The difference reported in the study is 1,4 W/kg and 0,002 W/kg for exposure and sham respectively, that is less than a factor of thousand I used above. It is therefore HIGHLY questionable that the SHAM exposure can be regarded as such! If there would be a clear cut threshold for symptoms provoked by the exposure that happened to be between the 0,002 and 2 W/kg exposures then - maybe - the study would have given some information. more |

Methods: Two case-control studies on malignant brain tumours diagnosed during 1997-2003 included answers from 905 (90%) cases and 2,162 (89%) controls aged 20-80 years. | The issue of power lines In The Netherlands the policy of the government now is not to build where the magnetic field is more than 400 nT. TenneT (the Transmission System Operator (TSO) in the Netherlands) has introduced a new high voltage system: http://tennet.nl/english/news/archive/8693.asp#0 The magnetic fields by the Wintrack powerline system are decreased, because the lines are always six in a perfect circle (before, they were in triangles). The magnetic fields neutralize each other extensively. Moreover there are conductors in the ground, I don't understand exactly how, I think they take stray fields away. | Das Verhältnis zwischen Leukämie-Risiko bei Kindern und Hochspannungsleitungen EN Kinder, die in der Nähe von Hochspannungsleitungen aufwachsen, erkranken häufiger an Leukämie als Kinder, deren Zuhause weit von Starkstromleitungen entfernt liegt. Zu diesem Ergebnis kommen Wissenschaftler der Universität Oxford in der Studie "Childhood cancer in relation to distance from high voltage power lines in England and Wales: a case-control study". Die Wissenschaftler hatten dazu die Wohnorte von 29.000 krebskranken Kindern - 9700 mit Leukämie auf der Insel untersucht und festgestellt, daß überdurchschnittlich viele an Leukämie erkrankte Kinder in der Nähe von Überlandleitungen leben. Kinder, die weniger als 200 Meter entfernt von einer Hochspannungsleitung auf die Welt kommen, haben demnach ein 69 Prozent höheres Risiko an Leukämie zu erkranken als Kinder, die mehr als 600 Meter entfernt von einem Starkstrommasten geboren wurden. Leben Kinder in einer räumlichen Entfernung von 200 bis 600 Metern zu den Überlandleitungen, ist das Risiko einer Leukämie-Erkrankung gegenüber der weiter entfernt wohnenden Vergleichsgruppe laut Studie um 23 Prozent größer. Für andere Krebsformen wurde kein erhöhtes Risiko gefunden. | Adlkofer's study from REFLEX DE 17.05.2005 Non-thermal DNA breakage by mobile-phone radiation (1800MHz) in human fibroblasts and in transformed GFSH-R17 rat granulosa cells in vitro. Diem E, Schwarz C, Adlkofer F, Jahn O, Rudiger H. Division of Occupational Medicine, Medical University of Vienna, Waehringer Guertel 18-20, Vienna 1090, Austria. Cultured human diploid fibroblasts and cultured rat granulosa cells were exposed to intermittent and continuous radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) used in mobile phones, with different specific absorption rates (SAR) and different mobile-phone modulations. DNA strand breaks were determined by means of the alkaline and neutral comet assay. RF-EMF exposure (1800MHz; SAR 1.2 or 2W/kg; different modulations; during 4, 16 and 24h; intermittent 5min on/10min off or continuous wave) induced DNA single- and double-strand breaks. Effects occurred after 16h exposure in both cell types and after different mobile-phone modulations. The intermittent exposure showed a stronger effect in the comet assay than continuous exposure. Die Brüche der DNA-Stränge wurden mit Hilfe der alkalischen und neutralen Comet Assay-Methode bestimmt. Die RF-EMF Exposition (1800MHz; SAR 1,2 oder 2W/kg; unterschiedliche Modulationen; während 4, 16 und 24 Stunden; intermittierend 5 min an / 10 min aus oder kontinuierliche Wellen) bewirkte DNA Einzel- und Doppelstrangbrüche. Diese Wirkungen traten nach einer Exposition von 16 Stunden in beiden Zelltypen auf und nach unterschiedlichen Mobilfunkmodulationen. | Cell phone base stations change brain currents and cause unwellness DE Research in Austria The radiation of a cell phone base station at a distance of 80 metres causes significant changes of the electrical currents in the brains of testees (measured by electroencefalogram, EEG). All the testees said they felt unwell during the radiation, some of them seriously. That is the result of an investigation by a team of Austrian scientists. They measured alpha 1 (8 to 10 Hz), alpha 2 (10 to 12 Hz) and beta waves (13 to 20 Hz). A small density of GSM 900 and GSM 1800 radiation already caused several significant changes in these three frequency ranges. This means the body is stressed - temporarily this may have some positive effect, in the long run however stress certainly reduces the quality of life, capacity for work and state of health. more |
